What Are The Best Toys For One Year Olds?
I was recently asking myself this question. What are the best toys for a one year old? My first nephew was coming up to his first birthday and I wanted to get him a special gift that was fun, a little different and educational. Everyone’s happy!
Trouble was I was having issues finding such gifts. After much research I decided to put all my finding onto a website for others to use to save them the time I have already spent researching.
The growing years of a toddler are the most interesting. They start to walk and talk and they try to imitate everything that happens in their surroundings. It is a sheer joy to watch them as they take their first steps. Parents are always on the lookout for new toys for their toddlers. Every parent wants to provide the best for their kids. They want to make sure that their kids play with the best toys.
What types of Gifts are there for one year olds?
Typical toys for one year olds can be broken down into categories. Typical Categories include education toys, traditional toys, ride on toys, push along toys, outdoor toys and bath time toys. For children at this age most of the toys are unisex meaning there are less specific boy and girl toys. At this age they will play with anything! And in some cases they are more interested in the boxes they came in than the toy itself. Such is life!
Traditional Toys For One Year Olds.
Traditional toys are timeless. They are the toys that children through the ages have been playing with. They tend to be made form wood and are generally a lot more durable than some of the modern plastic ones.
What makes these toys so good is that have been tried and tested through the years and we know that kids just love them. They may be simple or basic but to a one year old they are sometimes the most fun! See my review of traditional toys for one year olds here.
Educational Toys for One Year Olds.
One year olds are needing stimulation the whole time. They are at a stage where everything is learning. Not learning as in book smarts but learning about their surroundings. They are also learning and developing their motor kills and their sensory development. So any toys that stimulate the five senses (sight, sound, smell, touch, taste) are fantastic for a one year old.
Toys such as blocks that have varying textures, sizes, colors, weights, and gentle sounds are ideal. They offer lots of learning play opportunities: sensory development, building, problem solving. Since your toddler will be “clumsy” at first, model stacking or sorting with a few pieces at a time, then guide his hands to do the same. He’ll knock them down and be delighted. Be delighted back. They are learning cause and effect – if i do this then this happens!
